NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: CANTON FALLS TO NPL IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE (2021-02-27)

LIBERTY — A 4-point second quarter doomed Canton in their 54-48 loss to NP-Liberty in NTL boys’ basketball action Saturday.

Isaiah Niemczyk led the Warriors with 18 points as Tyler Jannone scored 13. Cooper Kitchen netted nine, Caiden Williams scored six and Gavin Morse rounded things out with two points.


Noah Spencer led NPL with 17 points as Brandon Thompson notched 12. Colton Litzelman and Kevin Alexander had seven points apiece, Derek Litzelman scored six and Koleton Roupp notched five.


Canton jumped out to a 15-8 first quarter lead on the strength of nine points from Kitchen.


NPL rallied back in the second, out scoring Canton 13-4 to take a 21-19 lead at the half. Five different Mounties scored to fuel the rally.


In the third the Warriors out scored NPL 18-17 to cut it to 38-37 after three. Jannone hit three 3-pointers in the quarter for Canton as Niemczyk had seven, too.


Thompson led NPL with six points, though six different NPL players scored.


In the final frame NPL out scored Canton 16-11 to get the win, using a 7-for-10 performance from the charity stripe to help get the victory.


Spencer had two 3-pointes end route to eight points as Thompson was 5-for-6 from the line.


Niemczyk had five points to lead Canton in the fourth.


The Warriors will now host a District IV, Class AA playoff game next week.
