NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: CANTON LOOKING TO USE 2021 AS LEARNING EXPERIENCE (2021-03-19)

The Canton girls’ basketball team had a strong start, but a Covid-19 interruption threw off their rhythm and they were never able to recover as they finished 4-14 on the year.

“I was just happy to get a season for the seniors,” said Canton coach Casey Aylesworth. “We didn’t accomplish our team goals, but hopefully they learned some things about fighting through adversity that they will remember for the rest of the their lifetime. At one point in season, we didn’t practice for three consecutive weeks between snow, quarantine, and games, and my new motto for them is no excuses-find solutions.”

They started the season 3-1, but only won game after that, though they nearly upset 1-loss South Williamsport at the end of the season. They fell to the Mountaineers 36-32 in overtime.

They did sweep the season series with CV, and played to two close losses against NP-Liberty (40-39 and 39-36), a team that made the District IV, Class A semifinals.

Aislyn Williams led the team at 7.5 points per game, while senior Reagan Kelley was second in the team at 6.5 ppg. Molly Ward had 59 rebounds on the season for most on the team.

“We were able to get 19 games in, and we were able to get a lot of sophomores valuable varsity time,” said Aylesworth. “Hopefully this will motivate them to put some work in during the summer time.”

Three starters return - Williams, Ward, and Emmie Tymeson - so the Warriors will look to improve next season.
