NTL BOYS' SOCCER: ELLIS' BIG DAY LEADS NEB PAST MONTGOMERY (August 31, 2025)
Northern Tier Sports Report
ROME — NEB rolled past Montgomery, 5-1, during non-league boys’ soccer action Saturday.
Ben Ellis had two goals with Carson Perkins getting a goal and two assists. Tyler Kuhn had a goal and an assist, as Eli Stanton scored, and Anthony Pousen getting an assist.
“We scored fast, and then gave one up right after,” said NEB coach Scott Merritt. “The first half was a weird experience of dominating field possession while having a sloppy time holding on to the ball. Our touches were not good, and often ended up giving the ball away or ending up out of bounds. But defensively we transitioned well, and retook possession from them often. We spent most of the time at the half or on their side of the field.”
NEB led 3-1 at the half, then added two more goals in the second 40 minutes.
“After half we found our rhythm and touches, got back to talking to each other, and made some great plays,” Merritt said. “Several players had a great day from beginning to end. The back four were stellar all day. Ben Ellis had a banger of a goal for his first, then a fantastic header off a corner for his second. We also subbed a decent amount today, and every person who came in put in very good shifts, and contributed. Malachi, Chapman, Will, and Brayden all put in some good minutes.”
Gavin Puza finished with five saves in net for the Panthers, who out shot the Red Raiders 24-7.
