NTL BASEBALL: EARLY LEAD DOESN'T HOLD UP AS NEB FALLS TO NP-MANSFIELD IN WALK-OFF (2021-03-30)

Northern Tier Sports Report
MANSFIELD — NEB scored six runs in the top of the first, but they couldn’t make it stick, as NP-Mansfield rallied, and won 8-7 in a walk-off hit by NPM’s Rhyan Wilson during NTL baseball action Tuesday.

The Panthers had a strong day at the plate, tallying 10 hits, but only scored one run outside their big opening inning.

Collin Allis (2-for-4), Dillion Donnelly (2-for-4), Josh Stanton (2-for-4) and Garrett Cooper (2-for-4) all had multi-hit games for NEB, with Nick Beers (1-for-4) and Lucas Crown (1-for-4) also getting hits. Beers’ was a double.

Cooper scored twice in the contest with Allis, Donnelly, Nick Beers, Andrew Beers and Crown also crossing home.

Allis led the team with 3-RBI followed by Donnelly knocking in two runs. Josh Stanton and Cooper each had one.

Nick Beers started and went 1 2/3-innings, striking out one while allowing three hits, four walks and six runs, five of which were earned.

Crown went the final 4 2/3-innings to take the loss, striking out seven with three hits and two runs, one of which was earned.

Jake Evans (2-for-4) led the Tigers at the plate.

In the opening inning a 2-run double by Allis broke things open. After two strikeouts Donnelly had a 2-run double to make it 4-0.

Donnelly and Andrew Beers would both score as Stanton also had an RBI single.

NP-Mansfield didn’t roll over, though, as they scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning, and three more in the second to knot things up.

The Panthers regained the lead in the fourth as Cooper scored on an RBI hit from Allis, putting them up 7-6.

That lasted until the bottom of the seventh, Logan Choplosky got on base to lead things off. He eventually scored to tie up the game, then with 1-out, Wilson hit in Derek Litzelman to win the game.

The Panthers (0-1) will host Troy on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start for their home opener.
