NTL BASEBALL: CANTON USES 3-RUN FIFTH INNING TO BEAT CV

WESTFIELD — A 3-run fifth inning rally gave Canton an 8-6 come from behind win over Cowanesque Valley during NTL baseball action Tuesday.
The Warriors jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first, but by the end of the inning they saw themselves down 5-4. Canton tied things up with a run in the second, with CV going back up with a run in the fourth.
Weston Bellows (3-for-5) had the big bat for Canton, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored.
Carter Route (2-for-2) and Hayden Ward (2-for-4) both had multi-hit games as well. Route’s included a double with both getting an RBI and a run scored.
Cooper Kitchen (1-for-4), Joel Schoonover (1-for-4), Hudson Ward (1-for-3) and Tyler Jannone (1-for-4) also getting hits on the day. Cam Bellows scored twice with Schoonover, Bailey Ferguson and Hudson Ward also crossing home.
Jannone knocked in two runs as Schoonover had 1-RBI.
Brendan Matthews started, but went just 1/3-inning to allow three walks, one hit and five runs, two of which were earned.
Connor Baillie then pitched the next 1 2/3-innings, allowing just three walks but no hits or runs. Kitchen pitched the final five innings to get the win, he struck out eight with one walk, one hit and one unearned run.
Caleb Morgan and and Jordan Vargeson had the two CV hits as Tucker St. Peter took the loss.
In the first inning Cam Bellows led things off with a walk. After an out Bellows scored on a Weston Bellows single, who then scored on Schoonover’s single.
Route’s double then scored Schoonover to make it 3-0. Two batters later Hayden Ward singles in Route for the 4-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning CV used five walks, plus a well place single and error, to take a 5-4 lead.
Canton tied things up in the second as Cam Bellows reached on a fielder’s choice. Two batters later he scored on an error off the bat of Weston Bellows.
The game stayed like that until the fifth when Cooper scored for CV with two outs to retake the lead.
Then in the fifth Canton loaded the bases as Route and two Wards all singled. After a strikeout Jannone singled to left to bring in Ferguson, who was running for Route, and Hayden Ward to give Canton a 7-6 lead.
Two batters later Hudson Ward stole home for the 8-6 lead.
The Indians threatened in the sixth as they loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground out ended the threat.
The Warriors will now host Wellsboro on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
