Northern Tier Sports ReportHERSHEY — Paced by a strong race out of Jackson Martin the NEB boys’ cross-country team was 12th overall at the PIAA, Class A Championships Saturday.
The Panthers finished with 291 points.
Martin was just five spots from medaling, taking 30th overall in 17:51.
He was 53rd at the mile and slowly moved up, sitting 42nd at the halfway point, 38th at the 2-mile, and 32nd with 1,000 meters to god.
Levi Dewing (18:52) was 108th overall as he moved up 73 spots in the final 2.1 miles.
After coming through the mile in 181st, he was 141st at the 2-mile, and 123rd with 1,000 meters to go.
Josiah Russell (19:27) took 151st. He took moved up quite a bit during the race, sitting in 203rd 800 meters in, and 175th at the halfway mark.
Lone senior Russell Martin (19:31) was just two spots behind him in 153rd. Russell was 166th at the mile, and got as high as 144th at the 4K mark.
Xavier Lockwood (19:40) rounded out the top five in 158th. He was 185th at the mile, and 165th at the 2-mile.
In the Class A girls’ race Sophie Bennett (22:22) took 82nd overall.
She was 138th at the mile but had moved up to 97th by the 2-mile. Bennett sat at 90th with 1,000 meters to go, taking eight spots in the final leg of the race.
