WILLIAMSPORT — It wasn’t quite the storybook ending the Troy girls’ soccer team was looking for, but nevertheless coach Wayne Pratt was proud of how his team played in their 2-0 loss to defending champions Central Columbia during the District IV, Class AA title game Saturday.
“They never gave up,” Pratt said. “The girls never did give up, they’ve done that all year long. We came up short today as far as the score goes, but I thought our girls played a very good game against a very good team.”
The Blue Jays got two first half goals from Joey Devlin and Amelia Jorg. In the second half Troy went back to their normal formation and played them even.
Troy had their chances, as the shots were 9-6 in favor of Central Columbia, but couldn’t connect.
“We couldn’t get anybody on the other end,” Pratt said. “We had our chances so that’s all we asked.”
Izzy Renzi made five saves for the Trojans, equaling her counterpart Braelyn Moran.
“When they hit her at the end of the first half they woke her up and she was on fire,” Pratt said. “She’s a competitor.”
Troy will travel to the defending state champions, Northwest Lehigh, this coming Tuesday for their program’s first state game.
“We’re going to continue to pressure the ball, and try to put more touches together,” Pratt said.
