Canton’s Alexis McRoberts made her collegiate choice, and she plans doing double duty when she heads to East Stroudsburg next fall. The Warrior will be playing women’s soccer and competing in track and field for her new ‘Warrior’ team.

“I chose East Stroudsburg because both the track and soccer coaches made me feel so welcome the minute I was on campus,” McRoberts said. “The campus and facilities are amazing, and just the overall atmosphere at East Stroudsburg was unlike any other place I had been.”

East Stroudsburg wasn’t the only school she considered, but it was the last one standing at the end of the search.

“I was looking in state to find a school who had my major,” McRoberts said. “There are not many schools in Pennsylvania with my major so that narrowed the search a lot. I talked to a few other coaches, and toured a couple other schools, but ultimately fell in love with East Stroudsburg and everything they provide.”

As with any big decision this comes as a relief for McRoberts.

“It’s an amazing feeling to finally make my decision, and to be confident in my choice,” she said. “It just allows me to take a deep breath, but also motivates me to really work hard and focus on becoming the best athlete and student I can be for the next level.”

Playing two sports at the collegiate level can be tough, but McRoberts wasn’t ready to part with either her soccer ball or her discus.

“Soccer has always been my favorite sport and something I really enjoy, so I always knew I would like to play soccer in college,” she said. “However in this past year I have grown to love track, had some success, and realized that I would like to continue building on what I have accomplished so far. I was not too sure I would be able to purse both sports, but after talking with the coaches at East Stroudsburg they were very accommodating and made me feel comfortable and confident in my decision.”

McRoberts plans on majoring in Health and Physical Education.

“Sports is something I love to do, and I would like to share that passion with the students in the future,” she said.
