Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — Canton dropped their season opener, 80-27, to South Williamsport in non-league boys’ basketball action Wednesday.
The Mounties jumped out to a 41-4 first quarter lead, but the Warriors bounced back with 17 second quarter points. South went on to out score them 25-6 the rest of the way.
Ryder Route had 11 points to lead Canton with Monte Whitehead netting six. Jack Whitehead had five, Teyton Thompson netted three, and Cooper Jennings finished with two.
Levi Butler had 43 points to lead South.
After their slow start the Warriors hit three 3-balls during their second quarter spurt with Route nailing two of them. Route had three 3-pointers to lead the team.
Canton (0-1) travels to Galeton Tournament this weekend.
