Northern Tier Sports ReportMONTGOMERY — For the third year in a row Northeast Bradford is walking out of the Kyle Lynn Tip-off Tournament with quite the medal haul, including the championship trophy after they beat NP-Liberty 48-43 in the title game Saturday.
Eli Stanton took home MVP honors, Clay Wilks made the All-Tournament team, and Mac Burgert won the 3-point shootout.
The Panthers used a 20-11 run in the third quarter to rally from a 2-point halftime deficit, then held off the Mounties down the stretch.
Dayton Russell had 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting to lead NEB, while adding six boards and three assists.
Cooper Brown notched 11 points with four boards, and four steals, with Stanton getting nine points shooting 4-for-7 from inside the arc, to go with five boards, five assists, and two steals.
Wilks had eight points and eight rebounds, as Burgert chipped in with four points and five assists. Daniel Barrett finished with three points, and five boards.
Luke Kreger had 21 points to lead NPL.
It was 12-10 after the first quarter with Kreger scoring six points for the Mounties as Burgert and Stanton had three points each for NEB.
Both teams had eight points each in the second as Russell led the Panthers with six.
Brown would get going in the third, netting eight points while Stanton had four as the Panthers took a 38-31 lead into the final frame.
In the fourth five different NEB players scored, led by Wilks’ four points, get the five points win.
In their opener on Friday the Panthers rolled past Meadowbrook 64-36.
Wilks had a double-double of 16 points on 7-for-9 shooting to go with 10 boards, with Brown adding 16 points, on 3-for-5 from deep, to go with nine rebounds.
Barrett and Russell had nine points apiece, as Russell shot 3-for-5 with two steals.
Nate Gross finished with six points, while Stanton and Burgert had four points apiece. Stanton added three boards, two assists, and two steals, with Burgert handing out four assists.
NEB led just 8-3 after the first quarter, but they poured in 18 points in the second quarter behind five from each of Brown and Russell to take a 26-17 lead at the half.
The Panthers used a 21-13 third quarter to pull away as Wilks and Brown each had six points, with Barrett scoring five.
NEB won a 31-16 JV game over Meadowbrook as Gross had 13 points, and Anthony Johnson scored seven.
NEB (3-0) travels to Wellsboro on Thursday.
