COLLEGE: AREA ATHLETES COMPETE AT THE WILKES OPEN (2025-12-20)

Busy day for college wresting for area athletes. Today at the Wilkes Open, Wyalusing’s CJ Carr (Lock Haven), North Penn Liberty’s Riley Oakes (Millersville) and Sullivan County’s Kruz McCusker (Misericordia).

Opening in the round of 16 McCusker faced Lucas Griffin of University of Scranton where following the opening takedown secured the fall in 1:02 to move onto the next round. In the quarterfinals, McCusker saw Charlie Colantonio of Franklin and Marshall where he lost by a 4-1 decision to fall to the consolation brackets. In the consolation round 8 #2 McCusker faces Nikos Filipos of the Naval Academy Prep School, where he dropped by major decision 13-1 to end his day. McCusker ends his
day 1-2 on the day.

Wyalusing’s Carr, opened his day up in the round of 16 squared off against Anthony Basile of George Mason. Carr wins by decision 7-3 to move onto the quarterfinal round where he faces jack Kazalas of Binghamton. Carr drops his quarterfinal match in TB2 2-1 to drop to the consolation round. In the consolation round 8 #2 where he will face Michael Volek of Millersville. Carr with the win by technical fall 19-3 in 3:40 to move to the next round. In the consolation round of 4 Carr battled Geoffrey Whelan of George Mason. Carr drops his match in sudden victory 8-5 to end his day. Carr finished his day 2-2.

North Penn Liberty’s Riley Oakes opened his day in the round of 32 facing Jonny Beckett of Eastern University. Oakes would drop by major decision 19-5 and drop to the consolation round. In the consolation round 16 #1, Oakes faced Jariel Severino of Misericordia University where he dropped his second match by major decision 14-2. This ends Oakes day with and 0-2 record.

Staying in the Big Ten, Lock Haven took to the mats versus Northwestern University. Lock Haven is looking to keep with the non-conference matches going into the holiday break.

Williamson graduate Kade Sottolano took to the mats versus Gabe Christenson. Sottalono gets the 3-2 decision win in TB-1. Lock Haven as a team lost the dual 19-13 to end the road trip 0-2. Sottolano ends his trip 1-1.
