Northern Tier Sports ReportDIMOCK — NEB boys’ basketball cooled off on Saturday as they fell to Elk Lake, 57-42, during non-league action.
It marks the Panthers’ first loss of the season.
The Warriors had a 1-point lead after one, but used a 22-point second quarter to take a 35-25 lead at the half.
They would out score NEB 22-17 in the second half to get the win.
Dayton Russell had 16 points on 8-for-14 shooting for the Panthers to go with eight boards, while Clay Wilks had 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting with six rebounds.
Eli Stanton added eight points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals, with Nate Gross chipping in with four points. Dan Barrett finished with four boards, and three assists.
NEB was 0-for-13 from the 3-point line in the game.
Chase Pond had 19 points to lead Elk Lake as John Heitsman, and Brayden Miller scored 13 points apiece.
Russell led NEB in the opening frame with six of their 12 points, while Wilks netted five in the second quarter.
Pond and Heitsman went off for a combined 19 points - 10 from Pond, and nine from Heitsman.
Wilks and Russell combined for 13 of NEB’s 17 second half points.
Elk Lake won the JV game 46-22 as Brody Allen had six points, and Landon Chapman netted five for the Panthers.
NEB (7-1) will host NP-Liberty on Tuesday in a big divisional match-up.
