NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: SECOND QUARTER STRUGGLES HURT TOWANDA AGAINST MT. CARMEL (2025-12-22)

HUGHESVILLE — A rough second quarter doomed Towanda as they fell to Mt. Carmel, 70-55, for their first loss of the season during the opening round of the Hughesville Tournament Monday.

The game was tied at 16 when the Red Tornadoes out scored Towanda 23-10 in the second quarter, with the Knights never recovering.

Markel Garner netted 15 points to lead the Knights as Lucas Vincent scored 14. Graham Welles, and Landon Clark had six points each, as Boom Thompson, and Darrius Farrell both netted five.

Keegan Stroud chipped in with four points.

Jude Lazicki had 34 points to lead Mt. Carmel.

Garner carried the offense in the first quarter, hitting four buckets for eight points while Lazicki, and Elijah Rempel had six points apiece for Mt. Carmel.

Lazicki went off for 12 points to lead the Red Tornadoes in the second quarter as they built a 39-26 lead. Thompson had all five of his points in the second frame for the Knights.

The third quarter was a little more even as Mt. Carmel edged out Towanda 13-11 to extend their lead behind six points from Lazicki.

Garner had five points for Towanda.

Towanda went off for 18 a game high 18 points in the fourth but couldn’t catch Mt. Carmel, who also scored 18 points.

Vincent netted eight of his points in the fourth.

Towanda (6-1) will face Montgomery in the consolation final on Tuesday.
