Northern Tier Sports ReportWAVERLY, N.Y. — Wyalusing had three players in double figures but couldn’t quite dig themselves out of a first half hole as they fell 65-53 to Waverly during non-league girls’ hoops action Monday.
The Wolverines led 32-18 at the half, but then saw Wyalusing net 22 third quarter points to cut the deficit to eight going into the fourth.
In the final frame Waverly went 13-for-16 from the free throw line to pull away for the win.
Jenna Morningstar had 16 points to lead Wyalusing with Alysha Botts scoring 13, and Emily Johns netting 12.
Liz Kilmer added five, Brinley Sterling scored three, with Treanna Nickeson, and Ireland Coats getting two points apiece.
Ryleigh Judson led Waverly with 22, as Kaitlyn Sutton added 16.
The Rams found themselves down 14-9 after one. Between the two teams 10 different players scored in the frame.
Judson went off for 10 points in the second, while Sutton added six as Waverly took the 14 point lead into the locker rooms.
In the third Morningstar and Botts combined for 15 points - Morningstar had eight, Botts netted seven - as Wyalusing cut it to 48-40.
The Rams held Waverly to just two field goals in the fourth quarter but couldn’t quite generate enough offense to pull even.
Wyalusing (2-4) is off to the Hughesville Tournament next week.
