Some busy days ahead as area teams play through New Year’s week with tournaments Monday and Tuesday, followed by a back to more normal schedule this weekend.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Monday, December 29
Troy (5-2) vs Bishop Kearney at Ernie Davis, 10 a.m.: Troy will look to bounce back from their loss to St. Mary’s as they face Bishop Kearney, who was beaten by Horseheads, 67-27, in their first round match-up.
Wyalusing (2-4) vs Milton (3-4), 3 p.m.: The opener for the Hughesville Tournament, the Rams look to bounce back against the Black Panthers. Milton recently lost to NEB (37-27).
NEB (2-2) at St. John Neumann (1-5), 5 p.m.: A varsity only contest, Neumann opened the season on a five game losing streak before beating Montgomery (24-21) before Christmas.
Sullivan County (3-4) at Canton (5-1), 7:30 p.m.: The Warriors open their holiday tournament against the Griffins. After an 0-3 start to the season Sullivan has gone 3-1 over their last four games, including a recent win over CMVT (42-10).
Tuesday, December 30
Troy (5-2) in Placing game: Depending on how things go Monday Troy will either play at 9 a.m. in the seventh place game, or at 12:30 p.m. in the fifth place game.
Towanda (6-1) vs Johnson City at Elmira, 3:15 p.m.: The Knights will go for the regional bracket title against Johnson City, who won the other semifinal.
Wyalusing at Hughesville Tournament: Depending on how things go the Rams will either play Hughesville a second time or Selinsgrove.
Canton hosts tournament: Depending on how things go Canton will either be playing NPL or Galeton on the second day. The consolation game is at 6 p.m. with the final at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, January 3
Troy (5-2) at Waverly, 11 a.m.: A double-header with the boys. Waverly won their Josh Palmer Fund opener, and have a win over Wyalusing this year.
Williamsport (2-6) at Towanda (6-1), 2 p.m.: The Knights play host the Lady Millionaires, who, after an 0-4 start, are 2-2 over their last four.
WRESTLING
Monday, December 29
NEB, Wyalusing at Jim Thorpe Tournament, 10 a.m.: Wrestling opens with two hours of pigtails through the quarterfinals, and second round consolations.
Towanda at Windsor Invitational: The Knights head up to one of the premier New York tournaments that features Waverly, and Tioga. Gage Evans comes in with a top three seed.
Tuesday, December 30
NEB, Wyalusing at Jim Thorpe Tournament, 11 a.m.: Wrestling opens with third round consolations, followed by semi-finals. The medal matches begin at 3 p.m.
Towanda at Windsor Invitational: The second day of the tournament wraps up.
Saturday, January 3
Wyalusing, Canton at Line Mountain Duals: Two area teams try their hand at a duals tournament that features teams from District IV, District III, and District XI.
NEB at South Williamsport Tournament: The Panthers head down to this individual tournament to start the new year.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Tuesday, December 30
Troy (4-2) vs Trumansburg, 5 p.m. at Elmira: The Trojans will be looking to nab their second regional bracket title in three years at Josh Palmer. Trumansburg beat Horseheads to get into the final.
Saturday, January 3
Troy (4-2) at Waverly, 12:45 p.m.: The second of a double-header with the girls’ team. Waverly opened the Josh Palmer with a win over Notre Dame.
NPL (1-3) at NEB (7-1), 7:30 p.m.: A make-up from before Christmas. The Panthers host the defending divisional champions in their first big divisional match-up of the season.

Saturday, January 3
NEB, Towanda at Montgomery Tournament: The two teams will face competition from the central part of the state. It will be NEB’s fourth tournament, and Towanda’s third.
SWIMMING & DIVING
Friday, January 2
Towanda at Elk Lake Invitational: The invite will feature teams from Bradford, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties.
