NTL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: RENZI SISTERS LEAD TROY PAST ATHENS (2026-01-09)

TROY — For the second game in a row Troy held a team scoreless through the first quarter as they rolled past Athens, 52-29, during NTL girls’ hoops action Friday.

The Trojans led 11-0 after one, then got hot in the second as they netted 21 points to take a 32-8 lead at the half. They held the Wildcats at bay from there.

The Renzi sisters led Troy on offense, with Giana Renzi netting 17 points, including three 3-balls, while adding six assists, and two steals.

Izzy Renzi had 14 points, four boards, and three steals.

Haidyn Watson added nine points, four boards, and two steals, as Kyah Renzo finished with nine points, five rebounds, and five steals.

Raelyn Woodward finished with two points, and four rebounds, as Emma Mickley had one point, with one rebound.

McKenna Jarvis led Athens with 13.

The Wildcats only had one field goal in the first half, getting their other six points off free throws.

In the opening frame four different Trojans scored, led by Renzo’s four as she went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

In the second Giana Renzi, and Watson heated up from deep as they both hit two 3-balls. Renzi finished with eight points in the frame to the 24 point lead at the half.

Athens tightened the screws in the third, holding Troy to single digits as they out scored the Trojans 8-7.

In the fourth the two teams had 13 points each, with Izzy Renzi scoring five to lead the Trojans.

Troy (9-3) will hit the road for three straight games, beginning with Wellsboro next Wednesday.
