Northern Tier Sports ReportMANSFIELD — Towanda boys’ hoops suffered their first league setback of the season, falling 56-47 to NP-Mansfield in NTL action Tuesday.
The Knights found themselves down 12 at the half, but used a 15-8 third quarter to cut the deficit to five points going into the fourth.
In the final frame the Tigers scored a game high 18 points to pull out the win.
Towanda was without center Markell Garner.
Boom Thompson had a season high 21 points to lead the Knights, while Landon Clark scored 11.
Josh Maye netted five, with Keegan Stroud, and Graham Welles adding three points apiece. Lucas Vincent, and Darrius Farrell chipped in with two points each.
Andy Hermansen went off for 24 points to lead NPM.
NPM jumped out to a 15-11 first quarter lead as Hermansen, and Patrick Youmans each had six points for the Tigers. Five different players scored for the Knights.
The Tigers were able to stretch the lead with a 15-7 run in the second, holding Towanda to just two 3-balls, and a free throw while Hermansen poured in 10 points.
Thompson jump started the team in the third, netting nine of their 15 as they cut the deficit to 38-33.
Thompson, and Clark had seven points each to lead the Black Knight effort in the fourth, but NPM went an efficient 5-for-7 from the free throw line to pick up the win.
Towanda (10-2) will travel to Wyalusing on Thursday.
