Northern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — It was back and forth but Warrior Run rattled off three straight wins in the final three bouts to edge Towanda, 40-35, during non-league wrestling action Wednesday.
The Defenders led 16-6 after the first four weights, but Towanda took five of the next six bouts to go up 35-22.
Warrior Run, though, scored three straight falls down the final stretch to pull ahead for the win.
Braydon Fessenden (121), and Gage Evans (152) each had a pin for Towanda, with Jaydon Stranger (133) earning a 17-0 tech fall in 3:27.
Bryghton Yale (139), Hagen Jones (145), and Reese Sluyter (172) all had forfeits.
Kael Majcher (107), and Chase Wirnsberger (127) each had a forfeit for Warrior Run, as Reagan Milheim (160), Tyler Ulrich (189), Blake Parker (215), and Noah Johnson (285) scored the falls.
Tyler Walburn’s (114) 16-6 major decision over Mason Harbst decided the match.
Towanda was wrestling without Tanner Vanderpool.
The wins from Majcher, and Walburn put Warrior Run up 10-0 early, but Fessenden’s pin cut the lead to four.
The forfeit to Wirnsberger made it a 10-point match, but that’s when Towanda started their comeback.
Stranger kicked it off with his tech fall over Samuel McCloskey, followed by forfeits to Yale, and Jones.
Evans’ fall over Blake Dion in 2:28 made 29-16.
Milheim (160) got a pin of Joey Montonya in 57 seconds to cut the lead to 29-22.
Sluyter’s forfeit put Towanda up 35-22.
That’s when the falls from Ulrich, Parker, and Johnson sent Warrior Run over the top.
Towanda (12-6) will travel to Wyalusing on Friday as they battle for the Standing Stone Trophy.
