SULLIVAN COUNTY PULLS AWAY FROM BUCKTAIL (2026-01-14)

RENOVO — A fast start allowed Sullivan County to beat Bucktail, 58-38, during Mid-Penn boys’ hoops action Wednesday.

The Griffins led 15-3 after one, and extended that lead to 30-14 at the half. The Bucks rallied in the third, cutting the deficit to 10 going into the fourth, but Sullivan had a game high 17 in the fourth to get the win.

Dom Marotti had 12 points, and four steals, to lead the Griffins, as Lucas King notched 10 points.

Cayden Smithkors had seven points, and seven boards, with Tucker Blasi, Ryan Murray, and Jaiden Moore scoring six points each. 

Colin King had five points, and six boards, as Carter Blasi netted four, and Calen Sweigart added two.

Gavin Pick led Bucktail with 20 points.

Lucas King had five points in the first, while Murray netted four, as the Griffins opened with a 12 point lead at the first horn.

Sullivan did most of their damage in the second from long range as Marotti led the way with two 3-balls as they doubled up Bucktail.

Pick went off for seven to lead the Bucktail rally in the third, but in the fourth five different Sullivan players found the bottom of the net, led by Smithkors’ six, to pull away.

Sullivan won the JV game 61-27 behind 13 from Landon Bahr.

The Griffins (12-2) will travel to St. John Neumann on Saturday.
