Northern Tier Sports ReportROME — Canton got some big wins in the middle weights as they topped NEB, 44-29, for their second straight victory.
The Warriors won eight matches to NEB’s five, headlined by major decisions from Tommy Preston (152) and Carson Rockwell (160) that gave them some separation from the Panthers.
Levi Vermilya (107), Carson Castle (121), Blane Wesneski (172), Trapper Burr (215), and Leland Pepper (285) all had forfeits for the Warriors, with Gavin Sharp (139) getting a fall.
Mason Alexander (114), and Hunter Comstock (127) both scored forfeits for NEB, as Alex Gomez (145), and Maddex Rooker (133) had falls.
Asher Kolesar (189) notched a tech fall.
It was back and forth early as the two teams traded forfeits from 107 to 127 to be tied at 12.
Rooker gave the Panthers an 18-12 lead with his pin of Henry Proseus in 1:15.
Sharp tied things back up with a fall over William Chappell in 3:10.
Gomez put the Panthers back on top with a fall over Grant Jennings in 58 seconds.
Then came the matches that decided things.
Preston got a 12-1 win over Conner Eastabrook, followed by Rockwell getting a 14-1 win over Kale Howland to put the Warriors up 26-24.
Wesneski then scored a forfeit to push the lead to 32-24.
Kolesar would get a 16-1 tech fall over Manual Halbfoerster to make it 32-29, but the forfeits to Burr, and Pepper allowed Canton to pull away.
Canton (7-7) will wrestle their fourth match in five days as they host Towanda Saturday night, while NEB (10-5) hosts Wellsboro on Tuesday.
