NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TOWANDA FALLS AT ATHENS (2026-01-17)

ATHENS — Towanda couldn’t slow down Athens’ attack as they fell, 72-62, during NTL Large School boys’ hoops action Saturday.

Both teams had three players in double figures as they were tied after one. 

The Wildcats took a 32-29 lead, then extended that to 49-41 going into the fourth. The two offenses got hot in the fourth, with Athens out scoring them 23-21 to get the win.

Boom Thompson scored 16 to lead the Knights, as Landon Clark netted 15. 

Darrius Farrell notched 14, with Markell Garner, and Graham Welles scoring six points apiece. Lucas Vincent rounded things out with five.

Athens’ Adam Kemp led all scorers with 21, while James Friend had 18, and Lucas Schultz netted 14.

Farrell and Clark had six points each to lead the Knights in the first frame, while Kemp hit two of his 3-pointers in the opening quarter for Athens.

In the second Thompson went off for seven points, while Friend scored eight to lead Athens, giving the Wildcats the three point lead at the half.

Vincent netted all five of his points in the third to lead Towanda, but Athens had the edge in field goals, 7-4, as they extended their lead to eight points going into the final frame.

In the fourth Thompson had seven, while Welles, and Clark both netted six as Towanda rallied.

However, Kemp had 10 to lead Athens, who went 8-for-13 from the free throw line to preserve the win.

Towanda (11-3) hosts CV on Wednesday.
