NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: CANTON FALLS AT SAYRE (2026-01-17)

SAYRE — After coming up just short at home against Sayre on Thursday Canton fell to the Redskins 53-17 during NTL boys’ hoops on Saturday.

Sayre led 15-3 after one, though Canton hung in their second, netting 10 points to keep it a 26-13 score at the half.

Sayre out scored the Warriors 18-1 in the third to pull away.

Monte Whitehead had 11 points to lead Canton as Drew Holton scored four, and Kix Carr netted two.

Riley Johnson had 24 to lead Sayre.

All of Canton’s field goals in the game came from behind the arc, with Whitehead hitting three of the four 3-balls.

Sayre led 14-0 in the first before Whitehead hit a 3-pointer to get Canton on the scoreboard.

It was 26-9 in the second when Whitehead had a 4-point play with 1.1 seconds left to make it a 13 point game at the break.

Sayre then opened up the second half with a 14-0 run.

Canton (0-13) will host CV on Monday.
