NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: WHITEHEAD, ROUTE HAVE BIG NIGHTS BUT CANTON FALLS TO CV (2026-01-19)

CANTON — Canton played CV tough, but ultimately fell, 61-40, to the Indians during NTL boys’ hoops action Monday.

It was 18-12 CV after one, and they extended that lead to 38-21 at the half. Canton hung tough in the third, netting 12 points, but couldn’t mount a rally in the fourth.

Monte Whitehead had 18 points to lead the Warriors, as Ryder Route netted 14. They combined for five 3-balls on the night.

Teyton Thompson netted six, as Kix Carr added two.

Austin Burdick had 23 to lead CV.

Whitehead started off hot, scoring 10 of his team’s 12 points in the first quarter as the Warriors found themselves down six at the first horn.

Whitehead added four more in the second, while Thompson led the Canton charge with five, though CV scored 20 behind nine from Burdick.

Route had the hot hand in the third, netting six points for Canton, then hit two 3-balls to lead them in the fourth.

Canton (0-14) will hosts Athens on Wednesday.
