BENTON — Sullivan County used a strong second half to pull away from Benton, 53-27, during Mid-Penn boys’ hoops action Monday.
It was just 10-10 after one, with the griffins taking a slim 23-18 lead at the half. They would go on to out score the Tigers 30-9 in the second half to get the win.
Lucas King had 14 points, and six boards to lead Sullivan, as Jaiden Moore netted 10 points.
Colin King had nine points, 13 boards, and four steals, with Cayden Smithkors adding eight points, and eight rebounds.
Dom Marotti had four points, and five steals, as Tucker Blasi also netted four points. Calen Sweigart chipped in with three points, as Ryan Murray netted one.
AJ Varner had 14 points to lead Benton.
Lucas King hit two 3-balls in the first quarter, and they were the only two field goals Sullivan had in the frame. Varner did one better, hitting three 3-pointers, to make it a tied game.
Sullivan started to get contributions elsewhere in the second, as Smithkors, and Lucas King each had four points to give them the 5-point lead.
The Griffins would out score them 13-7 in the third behind six points from Moore, and five out of Colin King.
A 17-2 run in the fourth sealed the win as seven different Sullivan players scored in the frame.
Sullivan won the JV game 46-10 behind 11 from Marshall Strain.
The Griffins (17-3) will host Northumberland Christian Tuesday.
