Northern Tier Sports ReportATHENS — Troy used a strong defensive effort to down Athens, 45-19 during NTL girls basketball action Thursday.
The Trojans took a 25-12 lead at the half, then held the Wildcats to just seven second half points.
Raelyn Woodward shot 5-for-8 from the floor en route to 13 points to lead the Trojans, while adding six boards, three steals, and two blocks.
Kyah Renzo had 10 points, four assists, and three steals, as Giana Renzi notched nine points, six steals, and six assists.
Izzy Renzi had six points, with Emma Mickley adding four points, and two blocks. Haidyn Watson rounded out the scorers with three points to go with four boards.
McKenna Jarvis led Athens with eight points.
The Renzi sisters each had a 3-pointer in the first quarter as Troy took a 12-6 lead.
In the second Renzo went off for seven points to give the Trojans the 13 point lead at the half.
Troy would out score Athens 9-2 in the third behind eight from Woodward, while in the fourth Woodward, and Giana both hit 3-pointers as the Trojans out scored Athens 11-5.
Troy hosts NP-Mansfield on Saturday with a 3 p.m. start.
