ATHENS — Wyalusing tried to rally in the second half, but fell 68-52 to Athens during NTL boys hoops action Monday.
The Rams found themselves down 25-9 after the first quarter, though they stayed with the Wildcats in the second quarter as they scored 13 points apiece.
Wyalusing used an 18-point third quarter to cut the deficit to 50-40, but an 18-point fourth quarter from the Wildcats helped them pull away.
Tyler Caplan had 21 points to lead the Rams, with Parker Cunningham adding eight.
Myles Kershner scored seven, Cam Cole netted five, with Shay Gartland, and Noah Kilmer adding four points apiece.
Jared VanDeMark chipped in with two, as Owen Brown added one.
Aiden Briggs had 20 points to lead Athens.
It was Briggs coming out of the gate strong, netting 12 points in the opening frame to put Athens up by 16. Caplan led Wyalusing behind a seven point effort.
Cole scored all five of his points in the second quarter to lead Wyalusing, with Gartland adding four more.
In their big third Caplan led the way with eight points, as Kershner and Cunningham both hit 3-balls.
In the final frame, though, Athens went 7-for-9 from the charity stripe to preserve the led. Caplan had six points to lead Wyalusing in the quarter.
Wyalusing (6-14) travels to Sullivan County on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. start.
