THE WEEK AHEAD: PLAYOFF HOOPS TO START THE WEEK, DISTRICT WRESTLING TO END IT (2026-02-16)

Northern Tier Sports Report
The winter sports season gets going in earnest with district playoff hopes throughout the week, and the District IV Wrestling Championships to end the week.

WRESTLING
Friday, February 20 & Saturday, February 21

District IV Championships at Williamsport: It’s a 5 p.m. start on Friday, then 9 a.m. on Saturday as the best in the district descend on the Magic Dome. It’ll be an uphill climb for the entire North Section as they have just one top seed going into the tournament.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Tuesday, February 17

Southern Columbia (10-12) at Canton (17-5), 7 p.m.: The Warriors topped SCA last year in this round, but Southern comes back a year older and with plenty of motivation. If Canton wins they likely play in the semifinals on Saturday.

Montgomery (2-19) at NEB (20-2), 7 p.m.: NEB snuck into the top seed at the end of the season and open with the Red Raiders. An NEB win moves them to the semifinals, likely on Saturday.

Wednesday, February 18
South Williamsport (12-10) at Wyalusing (13-9), 7 p.m.: The Rams host the Mounties in a pigtail contest with the right to play Troy. South fell to NEB earlier this year, a team Wyalusing defeated way back in December.

Thursday, February 19
Mt. Carmel (15-7) at Towanda (17-5), 6 p.m.: The first of a double-header in Towanda, this is a rematch of last year’s thriller in the third place game. Towanda fell to Loyalsock to open the season, while MCA split with them, including a 43-42 win at the end of January.

Friday, February 20
South Williamsport/Wyalusing at Troy (19-3), 7 p.m.: The Trojans will play hosts as they look to do better than last year’s stunner in the quarterfinals. A win likely means a date with Loyalsock in the semifinals.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Wednesday, February 18

Sayre (3-19) at NEB (19-2), 7 p.m.: The Panthers earned the top seed and get Sayre for the third time this season. NEB mercy ruled them in their first two meetings.

Thursday, February 19
Troy (13-9) at Southern Columbia (17-5), 7 p.m.: The Trojans have beaten SCA in the semifinals the past two playoffs so the Tigers will be looking to get some revenge.

Loyalsock (13-9) at Towanda (18-4), 7:30 p.m.:
The Knights face a Loyalsock team that’s gone 3-6 in their final nine games of the season.
