Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Wyalusing fell to Elk Lake, 19-2 in five innings, during their baseball season opener on Thursday.
This was just the third time the Rams had been outside, and it was tied 1-1 after one. The Warriors then put up eight runs in the second and never looked back.
Wyalusing got their final run in the bottom of the fifth.
Marshall Huston (2-for-3) had an RBI, with Campbell Carr (1-for-2) adding a double. Griffin Sheldon (1-for-2), and Michael Phillips (1-for-3) scored their two runs, as Owen Brown (1-for-1) also had a hit.
Cal Pickett chipped in with an RBI.
Jared VandeMark started, and went an inning with one strikeout, three walks, four hits, and seven runs, six of which were earned.
Brown tossed the next two innings, striking out two with one walk, three hits, and three earned runs, as Dawson Biza went the next 1 1/3-innings with one walk, seven hits, and eight runs, five of which were earned.
Huston pitched the final two-thirds with one strikeout, no walks, three hits, and one earned run.
In the bottom of the first Sheldon led off with a hit, then took second on a steal. Huston brought him home on a hit for a 1-1 score.
Brown would get a hit to put two runners on with one out, but Elk Lake retired the next two batters to end the threat.
In the fifth Phillips led off with a hit, worked his way around the base paths, then scored on a Pickett ground out.
Wyalusing (0-1) will host NP-Mansfield on Saturday in their league opener.
