Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — In her first varsity start Canton freshman Raya Preston tossed four hitless innings as the Warriors rolled past Sayre, 15-0, in four innings during NTL softball action Saturday.
Canton scored three in the first, then added two more in the second, before ending the game with a 10-run fourth inning.
Jaylee Ward (2-for-2) had two doubles, 3-RBI, and two runs scored, with Preston (3-for-3) driving in three runs while scoring twice.
Lindley Sechrist (2-for-4) and Tiffany Acla (2-for-3) both scored twice, while driving in a run. Alyssa May (1-for-3) scored, and drove in a run, as Lucy Proseus (1-for-3), Lexi McMurray, and Tara Gilbert all scored.
Amelia Pepper scored twice, with her and McMurray also driving in a run each.
Preston struck out five with one walk in the circle.
In the first Sechrist led off with a hit, then scored on an Acla single. Ward then doubled in Acla for a 2-0 lead.
Two batters later an error off the bat of McMurray brought in Ward for the 3-0 lead.
In the second Pepper reached on an error, then scored on a Preston single. After two outs Preston scored on an error off the bat of Ward.
In the big inning Preston, Sechrist, and Acla all had singles to load the bases, setting up a 2-run double from Ward.
Acla would score on an error off the bat of Gilbert, then Ward scored on an error off the bat of McMurray for a 9-0 ball game.
Proseus then reached on an error, setting up May’s run scoring single. Pepper then drew a bases loaded walk to make it 11-0.
Preston then drove in Proseus and May for a 13-0 score. Canton’s final two runs were Pepper scoring in a passed ball, while Kabry Kendall scored off an error.
Canton (1-0) is at CV on March 24.
