NTL TRACK & FIELD: TROY LOOK FOR BIG THINGS THIS SEASON (2026-03-22)

As Troy gets ready for the track and field season one thing they have going for them is numbers, as the girls have 35 on the roster, while the boys feature 25.

“We’ve had a number of girls move up from eighth grade to night grade, some heavy hitters there that I think are going to do really well for us,” said Troy coach Amy Miller.

One big returnee from last year is Kylee Roy, who just missed states in the 100 hurdles.

“I definitely cried,” Roy said about last year’s near miss. “But I realized how close I was, it only pushed me a little further this year. It definitely lets me know the potential that I have.”

She’s going to be working hard to get under the state qualifying time of 16.01 at the district meet.

“Quick feet, snapping my it down, up forward fast,” explained Roy.

She also plans on doing triple jump - ‘I’m hoping to push myself a lot farther in that, too,’ along with maybe a relay.

Having the 100 hurdles early in the day helps with other events.

“It definitely is easier,” said Roy. “It makes me a little more nervous for everything else, but it also gets me amped up and ready to go.”

The Trojans are also looking to put together a strong 4x100 relay.

“We’ve got Haylie Grove and Ellie Spalding,” said Miller. “I’m excited to see what they can do, along with their open events.”

On the boys’ side Cameron Morey returns, who came up just short of states in the high jump and triple jump last year.

“I’m just excited to see what’s next,” said Morey. “Hopefully, I still have the hops I did last year.”

Triple jump was a bit of a surprise last year, but he made a lot of progress late in the season.

“I didn’t really think I was going to be a great triple jumper, so I primarily focused on the high jump,” Morey explained. “Just last year alone I was in the high 30’s, then I just 42 at districts.”

In the high jump Morey’s wants to get 6-feet, 6-inches, with the state standard at 6-feet 3-inches. High jump is always more fluid of the two.

“I just have to take good care of my body,” said Morey. “I broke my leg freshman year of high jump, so I’m just taking care of my body, and doing all I can to produce the best results. I like competing. This is my main sport.”

Troy has also seen quite a few new kids come out his year in Spencer Martin, Toby Stanton, and Seth Feldmeier, along with solid sprinters and distance runners.

“I’m looking to see how Lucas Horton and Jasper Miller, how they do in the relays,” said Miller. She’s hoping to pair them with some newcomers for the 4x100 and 4x400.

“We have a really strong distance group, again,” Miller said. “A lot of sophomores like RJ Bellinger and a couple seniors - we’ve got Mason Wulf and Brody Campbell.”
