Northern Tier Sports ReportROME — NEB led most of the way but a 4-run seventh innings propelled Blue Ridge past the Panthers, 6-5, during non-league softball action Thursday.
Blue Ridge led 1-0 after two, but a 3-run third put NEB in control. They added another run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Blue Ridge got one back in the fifth, then scored four in the seventh to go up 6-4.
NEB got one back, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Madalyn Callear (3-for-4) had a home run with two runs scored, as Orissa Gardner (1-4) and Zoey Thetga (1-for-3) also had hits. Mackenzie Clark, Karmyn McPherson, and Izzy Kapr scored runs.
Kristina Larnerd took the loss, striking out four with eight hits, and no walks.
Callear hit a 1-out home run in the third to start their rally, as Clark and McPherson would both reach on errors. They would later score for the 3-1 lead.
In the fourth Kapr drew a walk, then scored on a Callear hit for a 4-1 lead.
Callear led off the seventh with a hit, and would eventually score but that’s all they could get across.
