Northern Tier Sports Report
CANTON — It was an offensive kind of day for Towanda as they pounded out two home runs in their 20-0 win over Canton in 3-innings during NTL softball action Wednesday.

The Knights finished with 14 hits - five of them of the extra base variety - as they scored four runs in each of the first two innings, then ended the game with a 12-run third.

Leila Cobb tossed a 3-inning no hitter striking out six of the 12 batters she faced. She allowed no walks, and no runs.

Brooklyn Evans (3-for-4) had a home run, 4-RBI, and four runs scored to lead the Knights as Brynsen Vargason (3-for-4) had a double, 1-RBI, and two runs scored.

Caedence Wells (2-for-4) had 3-RBI, with Leila Cobb (2-for-3) hitting a double, with 2-RBI, and a run scored.

Kaylen Sluyter (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored, and an RBI, while Maris Cobb (1-for-3) score twice, and drove in a run.

Hannah Crawford (1-for-1) had a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI, with Payton Perry scoring twice. Molly Roberts (1-for-2), and Kendal Cook both scored, as Roberts also drove in a run.

For the Warriors Raya Preston started, and went two innings with two strikeouts, no walks, seven hits, and eight runs scored, two of which were earned.

Tara Gilbert came in relief but didn’t record an out, allowing three walks, two hits, and seven runs, five of which were earned.

Jaylee Ward finished out the inning with one strikeout, three walks, three hits, and five earned runs.

The Knights did all their damage in the first inning with two outs as Evans and Vargason hit back to back singles. An error off the bat of Wells brought in Evans, then an error off the bat of Leila Cobb scored Vargason.

A third straight error, this time off the bat of Molly Roberts, plated Wells’ courtesy runner Sadie Overpeck, and Leila Cobb for a 4-0 lead.

In the second Crawford took the first opening of the inning over the left field fence to make it 5-0 Towanda.

After an out Maris Cobb and Evans hit back to back singles to keep the rally going. A 2-out hit from Wells scored Maris Cobb, then Evans was plated on a Leila Cobb hit.

Overpeck, running for Wells, scored on a Roberts hit for an 8-0 lead.

In the third the Knights opened the at bat with three straight walks to load the bases. That set up an Evans fielder’s choice that brought in Crawford and Perry for a 10-0 contest.

Vargason then singled in Evans, followed by Wells driving in Evans and Vargason to make it 13-0.

Leila Cobb then doubled in Overpeck, running for Wells, followed by Roberts drawing a walk.

A Sluyter double would bring in Ily Benjamin, running for Cobb, to make it 15-0.

After a walk to Cook Roberts would score on a passed ball, then Sluyter found home on a wild pitch.

A Maris Cobb ground out would drive in Cook for an 18-0 lead.

Evans then hit a first pitch 2-run home run for the 20-0 final.

Towanda (4-1) will take their 4-game win streak to NEB on Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. start while Canton (2-3) hosts NP-Liberty.
