Northern Tier Sports ReportEAST TROY — Troy baseball scored in four of six innings as they defeated Canton, 7-1, during NTL action Saturday.
The Trojans led 2-0 after one, then scored two more runs in the third. The Warriors cut it to 4-1 with a run in the top of the fourth, but Troy got two more back in the bottom half, then tacked on one more in the fifth.
Troy’s Logunn Heasley (2-for-4) scored twice and drove in a run, as Brendan Gilliland (2-for-4) had an RBI and a run scored.
Mason Smith (1-for-4) had a double with two runs scored, while Reed Palmer (1-for-3) had a double, an RBI, and a run scored.
Logan Loxley (2-for-3) drove in a run, as Lucas Loxley scored.
Gilliland got the start and win, going 4 2/3-innings with 11 strikeouts, three walks, four hits, and one earned run.
Hunter Watson tossed the final 2 1/3-innings with three strikeouts, two walks, and no hits or runs.
Lucas Crawley (1-for-2) had a home run to lead Canton as Trapper Burr (1-for-3), Reed Taylor (1-for-3), and Daniel Inman (1-for-3) all had hits.
Inman started, and went three innings with one strikeout, no walks, five hits, and four runs, two of which were earned.
Bailey Gardner tossed the final three innings with four strikeouts, two walks, three hits, and three runs, one of which was earned.
Smith opened the bottom of the first with a double then scored on an error off the bat of Heasley. Heasley later scored on a passed ball for the 2-0 lead.
In the third Heasley and Gilliland had back to back hits, setting up Palmer’s run scoring double. Loxley then brought in Gilliland with a ground out for the 4-0 lead.
Crawley would hit a 2-out homer in the top of the fourth on the very first pitch to make it 4-1.
The Trojans would score with two outs in the bottom half as Loxley reached on an error, then scored on an error off the bat of Smith. Smith then scored on a Heasley single for the 6-1 lead.
In the fifth Palmer led off the inning with a walk, then Loxley moved him over with a hit. Two batters later Palmer scored on a Gilliland hit for the 7-1 final.
