Northern Tier Sports ReportROME — NEB used a 6-run third inning to pull away from Canton, 9-2, during NTL baseball action Tuesday.
It was 1-1 after one, with NEB taking a 2-1 lead going into the third.
In the top of the third Canton tied it up, but then the Panthers unleashed for six runs in the bottom half to take control of the game.
NEB would add another run in the fifth for the 7-run difference.
Cooper Hugo (3-for-4) had 2-RBI and two runs scored for NEB as Nate Gross (3-for-4) drove in three runs.
Kohen Hugo (2-for-3) rocked a triple, scored three runs, and had an RBI, as Elijah DeLancey (1-for-4) and Wes Alderfer (1-for-4) both scored.
Anthony Johnson (1-for-2) had a hit, with Lyric Hillard and Tyler Goodenow both scoring.
Kohen Hugo got the win, he went the distance to strikeout 13 with no walks, six hits, and two earned runs.
Daniel Inman (2-for-3) had an RBI for Canton with Taylor Reed (2-for-3) scoring a run.
Bailey Gardner (1-for-3) also scored as Lucas Crawley (1-for-3) had an RBI.
It was pitching by committee for Canton with Trapper Burr starting, and going 2 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, seven runs, seven hits, and one walk.
Bailey Gardner tossed one-third of an inning with one strikeout, two hits, and one run, as Taylor pitched an inning with two walks, and a strikeout.
Ryland Wesneski went the final two innings with three strikeouts, two hits, one walk, and one run.
In the top of the first Gardner and Taylor had back to back 1-out singles with Inman driving in Gardner for a 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived as Kohen Hugo reached to lead off the bottom half of the inning. Cooper then singled, followed by Johnson reaching to load the bases.
Gross would drive in Kohen to make it 1-1.
In the second Kohen Hugo had a 2-out triple then was driven in by his brother, Cooper, for the 2-1 lead.
Canton rallied with two in the top of the third as Taylor doubled, followed by Inman singling. A Crawley double would drive in Taylor to knot things up.
Then came the bottom half of the inning where Neb scored all six with two outs.
Gross and DeLancey would hit back to back singles, while Alderfer reaching off a bunt.
After two outs Goodenow brought in DeLancey, followed by Kohen Hugo walking in Alderfer for a 4-2 lead.
A Cooper Hugo 2-run single saw NEB take a 6-2 lead.
After Johnson walked Gross brought in Kohen Hugo and Cooper Hugo for an 8-2 ball game.
In the fifth Cooper Hugo led off with a hit, then scored 2-batters later on a Gross single for the 9-2 final.
