Northern Tier Sports ReportEAST TROY — Troy took NP-Liberty to extra innings but ultimately fell, 4-2, during NTL softball action Thursday.
Both teams scored a run in the first, and then added another in the third. The game stayed 2-2 until the top of the eighth when NPL pushed two across to get the win.
Sydnee Bellows (2-for-4) had a double with a run scored for Troy as Erinn Knapp (1-for-4) also scored.
Haidyn Watson (1-for-3) and Maddyson Muir (1-for-3) each had doubles while Lauren Reed (1-for-3), and Izzy Renzi (1-for-4) both had hits. Renzi also drove in a run.
Knapp struck out five in the loss, with three walks, three hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.
Elyna Booth struck out eight in the win with three walks, six hits, and one earned run.
In the bottom of the first Bellows led off with a hit, followed by Watson reaching on an error. Reed then drew a walk to load the bases.
After an out Renzi would bring in Bellows with a ground out for the 1-1 ball game.
Knapp would get things going in the third with a 1-out hit. After a second out Knapp would score on a wild pitch to knot things up.
Troy would get two runners on in each of the seventh and eighth innings but couldn’t get them across.
Troy (4-7) will host Athens on Friday.
