NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON FALLS LATE TO WELLSBORO (2026-04-30)

WELLSBORO — Wellsboro scored a run in the sixth to sneak past Canton, 7-6, during NTL softball action Thursday.

The Warriors led 2-0 after one with Wellsboro scoring twice in the second to knot things up. The Hornets would take a 3-2 lead with a run in the third.

Canton rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth, only to watch Wellsboro tie things up with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Hornets would score in the sixth to get the win.

Raya Preston (2-for-3) had a double with two runs scored, and 2-RBI to lead the Warriors, while Lexi McMurray (1-for-1) had an RBI.

Jaylee Ward, Tiffany Acla, Nevaeh Vroman (1-for-4), and Trinity Acla (1-for-3) all scored for Canton with Tara Gilbert (1-for-3) and Cyan Hugo (1-for-4) both getting hits.

Ward went the distance in the loss, striking out five with eight walks, seven hits, and seven runs, six of which were earned.

In the first Ward led off with a walk, followed by a Preston single two batters later. That set up a 2-run error off the bat of Vroman for the 2-0 Canton lead.

Trinity Acla led off the fourth with a hit, followed by Tiffany Acla drawing a 1-out walk two batters later. That set up 2-run double from Preston to put Canton up 4-3.

Preston would score on an error off the bat of Vroman for a 5-3 ball game.

After an out McMurray singled in Vroman to make it 6-3.

Canton (5-8) will host Williamson on Monday with a 1 p.m. start.
