Northern Tier Sports ReportWELLSBORO — It was close early but Wellsboro used a 15-run fourth inning to down Canton, 20-5, during NTL baseball action Thursday.
The Hornets led 4-1 after one, but a 3-1 second inning in favor of the Warriors saw them cut the deficit to 5-4.
Canton scored a run in the top of the fourth to knot things up at 5-all before Wellsboro’s big inning.
Bailey Gardner (3-for-3) had a double with a three runs scored, with Daniel Inman (3-for-3) driving in two runs.
Reed Taylor (1-for-2) and Leeland Tubach (1-for-3) each had an RBI as Carson Castle (1-for-2), and Trapper Burrs (1-for-3) both scored.
Ryland Wesneski started, and went three innings with two strikeouts, three walks, two hits, and five unearned runs.
Gardner came on but didn’t record an out, allowing two walks, and two earned runs.
Grant Jennings pitched for a third with two walks, one hit, and five runs, four of which were earned.
Aaden Dowling tossed another third with one walk, three hits, and six runs, four of which were earned.
Teyton Thompson was on the mound at the end for Canton, allowing one walk, and two unearned runs.
In the top of the first Canton used two singles and a walk to load the bases. Tubach would hit a 2-out single to drive in Gardner for a 1-0 lead.
Carson and Burr had back to back hits in the top of the second to set up Gardner’s run scoring double.
A Taylor ground out brought in Burr, then Inman singled in Gardner for a 4-4 contest.
Gardner and Taylor had back to back 1-out singles to start the fourth, followed by Inman getting a hit to bring in Gardner.
Canton (5-10) will travel to Muncy on Friday.
