Northern Tier Sports ReportBINGHAMTON, N.Y. — NEB baseball used a 5-run second inning to beat Lackawanna Trail, 8-4, to claim the Blue Ridge Tournament Title Saturday.
It was 1-0 Panthers after one, then they took control of the game after the second, going up 6-0.
Trail got a run back in the top of the third, only for the Panthers to score one more in the fourth.
Lackawanna out scored them 2-1 in the fifth to cut it to 8-3, then made it 8-4 with a run in the sixth.
Kohen Hugo (3-for-4) scored three times for NEB as Cooper Hugo (2-for-4) drove in three runs while scoring once.
Elijah DeLancey (1-for-3), Wes Alderfer, Tanner Judson (1-for-2), and Tyler Goodenow all scored for the panthers with Nate Gross (1-for-3) getting a hit.
Cooper Hugo started, and went 5 2/3-innings for the win. He struck out three with seven walks, six hits, and four runs.
Gross went the final 1 1/3-innings with three strikeouts, and three hits.
Kohen Hugo led off the bottom of the first with a hit, then scored on his brother Cooper’s single.
Alderfer led off the bottom of the second with a walk, followed by Judson singling.
Alderfer would score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.
After an out Goodenow drew a walk, followed by Kohen Hugo singling to load the bases.
Cooper Hugo then singled in Judson and Goodenow for a 4-0 lead.
Kohen Hugo and Cooper Hugo would both score on Trail errors to make it 6-0.
In the fourth Kohen Hugo reached on an error, then scored on an error off the bat of Anthony Johnson to make it 7-1.
DeLancey led off the fifth with a hit, then later scored on a passed ball.
NEB (9-6), on the verge of qualifying for districts, will travel to Sayre on Monday.
