Northern Tier Sports ReportEAST TROY — Troy seventh inning rally came up short as they fell 5-4 to Jersey Shore during non-league softball action Monday.
It was 1-1 after one with the Bulldogs pushing another run across in the top of the third.
They added two more in the fifth for a 4-1 lead, then notched another to start the seventh to go up 5-1.
The Trojan bats came alive in the bottom half of the inning as they scored three, and had the tying run on first base when Jersey Shore got back to back outs to secure the win.
Sydnee Bellows (3-for-4) had a strong day at the plate for Troy, with two runs scored, as Haidyn Watson 92-for-4) had a double with an RBI, and a run scored.
Lauren Reed (1-for-3) drove in two runs with Erinn Knapp (1-for-4), Maddyson Muir (1-for-3), and Danielle Roy (1-for-3) all getting hits
Aleiyah Kutt scored a run.
Knapp struck out seven in the loss, allowing one walk, eight hits, and five runs, three of which were earned.
In the bottom of the first Bellows and Watson had back to back hits to lead things off. Reed then laid down a bunt that scored Bellows on an error to make it 1-1.
Knapp would single to load the bases with no outs but Jersey Shore got three straight outs to get out of the jam.
The Trojans wouldn’t threaten again until the seventh when Kutt reached on an error.
Roy would single to put runners on the corners when it appeared Bellows legged out an infield hit to score Kutt.
However, the officials called runner’s interference after a coaches protest. Roy was called out at second, and Kutt had to go back to third with Bellows safe at first.
Watson would double in Kutt to make it 5-2, then a Reed single plated Bellows and Watson for a 1-run game.
However, Reed would be stranded at first as Jersey Shore got a strikeout, and a ground out to end the threat.
Troy (5-10) will turn around and travel to Sayre on Tuesday.
