Northern Tier Sports ReportSAYRE — NEB was up 12 but Sayre used a 10-run fifth inning to get back in the game, then scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the 17-16 walk off during NTL baseball action Monday.
NEB jumped out with four runs in the top of the first, then scored three more in both the second and third innings to go up 10-0.
The Panthers tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth for a 12-0 lead, but Sayre came back with four runs in the bottom half to make it 12-4.
A 2-run top fifth saw NEB inch closer to the mercy rule win, going up 14-4, but then Sayre scored 10 in the bottom half to tie the game up.
The Panthers would push two more runs across in the top of the sixth to take a 16-14 lead, and that held until the bottom of the seventh.
Kohen Hugo (4-for-5) had a triple with three runs scored and an RBI for NEB as Cooper Hugo (3-for-4) had a double, 2-RBI, and two runs scored.
Anthony Johnson (3-for-5) scored three times, and drove in four runs, as Wes Alderfer (3-for-3) had 3-RBI.
Nate Gross (1-for-2) scored twice, and had 2-RBI, with Elijah DeLancey (1-for-3) scoring and driving in two runs.
Tyler Goodenow (1-for-4) had a double with 2-RBI, and a run scored, as Will Chappell (1-for-2) scored a run.
Will Kapr (1-for-1) rocked. Double with Tanner Judson, Ka’Ron Carr, and Lyric Hillard all crossing home.
Johnson started, and went the first four innings with five strikeouts, one walk, five hits, and four runs, one of which was earned.
Brad Shores pitched one-third of an inning with no strikeouts, two walks, two hits, and four earned runs.
The final third went to Nate Gross, who had no strikeouts, one walk, five hits, and six earned runs.
Kohen Hugo went the final two innings, with two hits, six strikeouts, no walks, and three unearned runs.
Kohen Hugo led off the game with a hit, followed by Cooper Hugo drawing a walk.
Johnson would single in Kohen Hugo, followed by Gross driving in Cooper Hugo for a 2-0 lead.
A DeLancey sacrifice fly brought in Johnson for a 3-0 ball game.
Alderfer single scored Gross to make it 4-0 after one.
Kohen Hugo had a 1-out single to get things going again in the second, followed by Cooper Hugo driving in Kohen with a double.
Johnson would bring in Cooper to make it 6-0.
A DeLancey single would plate Johnson for the 7-run lead.
Judson would draw a walk to start the third, followed by Carr reaching on an error. A Goodenow walk would load the bases.
A Kohen Hugo sacrifice fly brought in Judson, then Cooper Hugo singled in Carr to make it 9-0.
Back to back walks to Judson and Gross would make it 10-0 NEB as Goodenow scored.
Kapr led off the fourth with a double, but Sayre would retire the next two batters.
Kohen Hugo kept the rally going with a hit, followed by Cooper singling to load the bases.
A Johnson single plated both Carr and Kohen Hugo for a 12-0 lead.
DeLancey led off the fifth with a walk, followed by Chappell singling. Kapr would get hit by a pitch to load the bases.
That set up Goodenow’s 2-run double for the 10-run lead.
After Sayre tied things up in the fifth Johnson would hit a 1-out single as NEB struck back.
Gross would draw a walk, then, after a second out, Chappell singled them both in for a 16-14 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh Sayre had two on with two out when a single, followed by an error, allowed three runs to score for them to get the win.
