Northern Tier Sports ReportWELLSBORO — NEB jumped out early but saw Wellsboro rally for the 7-3 NTL softball win Thursday.
The Panthers led 3-0 after one and that stuck until the bottom of the fourth when Wellsboro pushed two across to make it a 1-run game.
The Hornets would go ahead with a 3-run fifth, then tacked on two more insurance runs in the sixth.
Madilyn Callear (1-for-3), Karmyn McPherson (1-for-4), and Mackenzie Clark (1-for-3) scored the three Panther runs as Kristina Larnard (1-for-2) had a hit.
Izzy Kapr drove in a run.
Callear struck out two in the loss, with one walk, 10 hits, and seven runs, four of them earned.
Ady Frantz had 13 strikeouts for the Hornets, breaking Wellsboro’s single season strikeout record.
Callear opened up the game with a walk, followed by McPherson singling. After an out Orissa Gardner drew a walk.
Callear would score on a passed ball to make it 1-0, followed by Clark reaching on a base on balls.
McPherson then scored on a passed ball to put the Panthers up 2-0. Larnard kept the rally going by getting hit by a pitch.
Wellsboro would catch Gardner when she tried to take home on a steal, but Ava Lambert drew a walk to reload the bases.
Kapr then walked to bring in Clark for the 3-0 lead.
NEB (5-12) will host Montrose on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start.
