Northern Tier Sports ReportWYSOX — Towanda baseball kept their postseason hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Sayre during NTL action Thursday.
Avery Butts and Boom Thompson combined for the shutout win as Sayre out hit Towanda 3-2, but it was the Knights pushing a run across in the fifth.
Butts went six innings with six strikeouts, three walks, and three hits to get the win, while Thompson tossed the final inning.
Thompson (1-for-2) had an RBI as Butts scored the run. Brad Assante (1-for-3) also had a hit.
Karter Green went the distance in the loss for Sayre with five strikeouts, five walks, two hits, and one unearned run.
Gage Evans would draw a walk to lead off the fifth but was out at second on a Butts fly-ball that dropped.
After another out Stevens kept the inning alive with a walk to put two runners on with two outs.
Thompson came away with the clutch hit, singling in Butts for the 1-0 lead.
Towanda (7-10) is at Edison on Friday with a 4:45 p.m. start.
