Northern Tier Sports ReportATHENS — Canton dropped a 7-3 NTL softball contest at Athens on Thursday.
It was scoreless after two when Athens pushed two across in the bottom of the third to take the lead.
They would add five more in the fourth for a 7-0 advantage. Canton would rally in the seventh with three runs.
Lexi McMurray (2-for-2) scored, and drove in a run for the Warriors, as Lindley Sechrist (1-for-3) and Tiffany Acla (1-for-3) each had an RBI.
Tara Gilbert (1-for-3), and Nevaeh Vroman (1-for-2) both scored.
Raya Preston struck out three in the loss, allowing two walks, 10 hits, and seven runs.
Gilbert and Vroman got things going with back to back 1-out singles in the seventh. After a second out McMurray drove in Gilbert with a hit.
Sechrist would single in Vroman, then Acla drove in McMurray for Canton’s three runs.
Canton travels to Wyalusing on Saturday with an 11 a.m. start.
