NTL BASEBALL: CANTON FALLS AT ATHENS (2026-05-07)

ATHENS — It was tied after one but Athens used an 8-run third inning to pull away from Canton for a 13-3 win in five innings during NTL baseball action Thursday.

It was 3-3 going into the second, but after the third the Wildcats led 11-3. They tacked on two more runs in the fifth to get the mercy rule win.

Trapper Burr (2-for-3) had a double with a run scored to lead the Warriors as Bailey Gardner (1-for-3) and Daniel Inman both scored.

Aaden Dowling (1-for-2), Isaiah Colton, and Leeland Tubach each had an RBI.

Ryland Wesneski started, going two innings with two strikeouts, two walks, three hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.

Gardner tossed two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout, two walks, four hits, and seven earned runs.

Burr went the final 1 1/3-innings with no strikeouts, two walks, four hits, and three earned runs.

Burr and Gardner both had singles to lead off the game. After an out Inman drew a walk to load the bases.

Tubach then walked to score Burr, followed by Gardner reaching home on an error off the bat of Colton. 

After a second out Dowling singled in Inman to make it 3-0 Canton.

Canton (7-12) will finish up their season on Monday as they host Troy.
