NTL SOFTBALL: NEB PULLS OUT WILD, 18-15, WIN OVER SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT (2026-05-11)

ROME — In a roller coaster of a game, NEB pulled out an 18-15 win over South Williamsport during non-league softball action Monday.

It was 2-2 after one, with the Panthers scoring two in the second to go up 4-2.

A 7-run third by South saw them take a 9-4 lead, then pushed it to 10-4 with a run in the top of the fourth.

NEB came back with a 6-run bottom half to knot the game up at 10-all.

The Panthers would take control of the game with a 7-run fifth inning for a 17-10 advantage. 

The two teams traded runs in the sixth, with South rallying in the seventh with four runs but the deficit was just too much.

Jaylin Wheaton (3-for-5) had a double with a run scored, and an RBI to lead NEB with Mackenzie Clark (1-for-4) scoring three times while driving in three runs.

Ava Lambert (1-for-4) had a double, 3-RBI, and two runs as Zoey Thetga (1-for-4) doubled with three runs scored.

Karmyn McPherson (1-for-4) scored three times while driving in a run as Kristina Larnard (1-for-3) and Izzy Kapr (1-for-2) both scored twice. Kapr also had an RBI.

Orissa Gardner (1-for-4), and Madilyn Callear both scored, as well.

Callear started, and went four innings with three strikeouts, two walks, 10 hits, and 10 runs. 

Larnard came on in relief, striking out four with no walks, six hits, and five runs.

In the first, McPherson reached on an error then scored on Thetga’s double. Thetga then took home on a passed ball for a 2-2 score.

In the second, Larnard singled. Two batters later Lambert doubled her in, then scored on an error for the 4-2 lead.

Lambert led off the fourth with a walk, followed by Kapr getting beaned. Callear drove both in for a 10-6 ball game.

A McPherson hit drove in Callear, followed by Thetga getting hit by a pitch. After an out Clark singled them both in for a 10-9 game.

Clark later scored on a Lambert sacrifice fly to make it 10-10.

In the fifth, McPherson would reach then scored on an error off the bat of Thetga to put NEB up 11-10.

Gardner then drew a walk, with Thetga scoring on an error. An error off the bat of Clark allowed Gardner to come home.

Larnard then reached, setting up a Wheaton double that plated Clark for a 14-10 game. Lambert would bring in Larnard with a ground out.

Kapr followed by singling in Wheaton, while Callear brought in Kapr to make it 17-10.

NEB’s final run came in the sixth as Gardner singled, followed by Clark drawing a walk. Gardner would get caught stealing, but Clark would score on an error off the bat of Larnard for their 18th run.
