Northern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA, N.Y. — Towanda baseball routed Notre Dame, 9-0 in five innings, during non-league baseball action Monday.
The win lifts the Knights to 9-10 on the year, and are just 1-win away from a district berth. They travel to Neumann Tuesday for their regular season finale.
Towanda jumped on the scoreboard with a 3-run second, then pushed another run across in the fourth.
They pulled away with a 7-run fourth.
Lucas Vincent (3-for-3) had a double with three runs scored as Avery Butts (2-for-3) had a triple with two runs scored, and an RBI.
Harper Welles (1-for-3), Shane Maghamez (1-for-3), and Brad Assante (1-for-3) all scored and drove in a run, with Gage Evans, and Hudson Stevens also crossing home.
Evans added an RBI with Brayden Spencer (1-for-1) hitting a double.
Assante went all five innings for the win, striking out six with two walks, and one hit.
Vincent led off the second with a hit, followed by Evans drawing a walk two batters later.
Vincent would score on a steal of home while Evans scored on a pitching error.
Butts would reach on an error, then score on a passed ball for their third run of the inning.
Vincent led off the third with a double then scored on an Evans ground out for a 4-0 lead.
In the big fourth inning Stevens drew a walk to lead things off, then scored on a Welles single. Welles was brought home on a Maghamez hit for a 6-0 lead.
Vincent would single to keep the rally going followed by Assante plating Maghamez with a hit.
Vincent would score on a balk to make it 8-0.
After a walk to Evans Assanate would score on a balk, followed by Butts singling in courtesy runner Gabe Wolf for the 10-0 final.
