THE WEEK AHEAD: DISTRICT PLAYOFFS FOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL, TRACK ATHLETES HEAD TO STATES (2026-05-17)

The week everybody has been waiting all spring for. It's district baseball and softball while state track caps everything off.

BASEBALL
Tuesday, May 19
Troy at Warrior Run, 4:30 p.m.: A meeting of the fifth and fourth seeds of the Class AAA tournament. The winner will play on Friday against either Wellsboro or Bloomsburg at a time and place to be determined.

NEB vs CV at Mansfield University, 4:30 p.m.: CV won both match-ups during the regular season as the two teams are quite familiar with one another. The winner plays in the Class A title game at Bowman Field on Friday with a first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m. They'll play the winner of Millville and Benton.

SOFTBALL
Tuesday, May 19
Wyalusing vs Williamson at Elm Park, 4:30 p.m.: The Rams beat Williamson during the regular season. The winner gets top seed Northwest at 5 p.m. on Thursday back at Elm Park in the Class AA title game.

Montoursville at Towanda, 4:30 p.m.: The Knights will host a district playoff game for the first time this decade. The winner will head to Elm Park on Thursday with a 3 p.m. first pitch. They'll face the winner of Loyalsock and Warrior Run.

TRACK & FIELD
Friday, May 22 & Saturday, May 23
PIAA Championships at Shippensburg, 9 a.m.: The pinnacle of track in the state of Pennsylvania, with several area athletes looking to bring back hardware. On Thursday Canton's Alexis McRoberts throws the discus (9 a.m.) and Lawrence Halbfoerster runs in the 1600 (9 a.m.) In the afternoon Towanda's Brynn Woodruff throws the javelin. On Saturday Towanda's Marin Maynard does the pole vault in the morning with Wyalusing's Jonathan Earle going in the afternoon. Canton's Lawrence Halbfoerster and Towanda's Emmett Klees both run in the 3200, while Canton's Alexis McRoberts throws the shot put in the morning.
