WILLIAMSPORT — Sullivan County gave top seed Bucktail a scare, falling 10-7 in the District IV, Class A softball semifinals Tuesday.
The Griffins went up 2-0 in the top of the first only to watch the Bucks rally for five runs in the bottom half.
Ducktail added two more runs in the second for a 7-2 lead. After a scoreless third the Bucks pushed one across in the fourth for the 6-run advantage.
That's when Sullivan started their comeback. They scored two in the fifth, then tacked on three more in the top of the sixth to make it a 1-run game.
The Bucks got some breathing room in the bottom half with two runs, then held the Griffins scoreless in the seventh.
Sullivan County induced nine walks on the night as Maria Hallabuk (2-for-4) scored three times, while Trinity Rohe crossed home twice.
Charley Insinger (1-for-4) and Bailey Bogart both scored.
Emilia Viveiros drew three walks and drove in a run as Bailey Smith and Hannah Kelly (1-for-3) had 2-RBi each. Maizey Keeney chipped in with an RBI.
Viveiros went the distance in the loss, striking out six with no walks, 14 hits, and 10 runs scored.
In the top of the first Hallabuk led off the game with a walk, followed by Insinger getting a hit.
A fielder's choice off the bat of Rohe saw Sullivan have runners on the corners.
A Smith ground out allowed Hallabuk to come home for the 1-0 lead.
Viveiros followed by drawing a 2-out walk, with Kelly hitting an infield single. Keeney then walked to bring in Rohe for the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth Hallabuk led things off with a hit, with Insinger drawing a walk. Hallabuk would score on a steal of home for an 8-3 lead.
An error off the bat of Smith, followed by a walk to Viveiros loaded the bases, setting up Kelly's ground out that scored Insinger.
In the sixth Bogart drew a 1-out walk followed by Hallabuk hitting a single. After a second out Rohe was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Smith then drew a walk to bring in Bogart, followed by Viveiros getting beaned to score Hallabuk.
A walk to Kelly plated Rohe and made it a 1-run game.
Bucktail got out of the inning with a strikeout.
