MANSFIELD — NEB rallied late but CV would answer as they edged the Panthers, 10-6, during the District IV, Class A baseball semifinals Tuesday.
The Indians scored one run in each of the first and second innings, then broke the game open with a 4-run third to go up 6-0.
After a scoreless fourth the Panthers responded, pushing four runs across in the fifth, then tying the game up with two runs in the top of the sixth.
CV struck back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, then kept the Panthers down in the seventh.
Cooper Hugo (1-for-2) had a double with 2-RBI and a run scored as Nate Gross (1-for-4) had a double with 3-RBI.
Kohen Hugo (1-for-3) scored and drove in a run as Tanner Judson, Keagan Netherton, William Chappell (1-for-3), and Tyler Goodenow (1-for-3) all scored. Brad Shores (1-for-3), and Elijah Delancey 91-for-4) each had a hit.
Anthony Johnson started, and went just one inning, with no strikeouts, two walks, four hits, and two earned runs.
Hugo went the final five innings with four strikeouts, one walk, nine hits, and eight runs.
After spotting CV the 6-0 lead Shores led off the top of the fifth with a hit, as Netherton came on to run for him.
After an out Goodenow singled, setting up an RBI hit from Kohen Hugo to get NEB on the scoreboard.
Cooper Hugo drew a walk to load the bases.
After an out Gross cleared the bases with a 3-run double to cut the deficit to 6-4.
In the sixth Judson got on base the painful way, getting beaned. After a strikeout Chappell singled to put two runners.
CV would get a second strikeout, but a Kohen Hugo walk loaded the bases.
Cooper Hugo came through with the clutch hit, doubling in Judson and Chappell to knot the game up at 6-6.
The Indians did throw Kohen Hugo out at home to end the at bat.
In the bottom half CV opened things up by reaching on an error and it was downhill from there. Three singles and a triple later and they were up 9-6.
They would get another run later in the inning to go up by four.
Johnson would lead off the seventh by reaching on an error but CV got the next three batters out to secure the win.
