Northern Tier Sports Report
There were no shortages of big performances in area girls track and field action this year, with two Bradford County athletes bringing home three different silver medals.
Canton's Alexis McRoberts leads the way with two state runner up finishes in the shot put and the discus. McRoberts claimed the District IV title in both events, set new district records in both events, and set new school records in the two events, making her the Athlete of the Year for the Bradford County Girls Track and Field All-stars.
Towanda's Brynn Woodruff got the other state silver medal, taking second in the javelin for the second year in a row. She was the district champion in the event, and ends her high school career as the school record holder in the event, making her the Field Athlete of the Year.
Athens' Abby Burgess was a state qualifier in the 100 for the second year in a row, while just missing it in the 200, making her the Track Athlete of the Year.
Towanda freshman Maris Cobb qualified for states in the 3200, and just missed making it in the 1600. She also made the district podium with her 4x800 relay team, making her the Newcomer of the Year.
The Towanda 4x800 relay of Cobb, Mary-Kate Eberlin, Kylee Barnes, and Izzy Larson are the Relay of the Year as they took fourth at the District IV Championships.
Though small in number the Canton girls track and field team made a big impact on the school records book. The Warriors got two records from Alexis McRoberts, one out of Daveian Crowley, and Danah Wesneski each, and their 4x100 relay also getting into the record books - earning Casey Aylesworth and his staff the Coach Staff of the Year honors.
